78 militants killed in Nigerian air strikes

ABUJA, Aug. 09 (YPA) – The Nigerian army announced on Sunday that 78 members of terrorist groups were killed in air strikes targeted their camps in the state of Zamfara, northwestern the country.

A spokesman for the Air Force said – in a statement – that the authorities carried out an air operation on August 2, targeting the camps of armed gangs in the Kumbana forest in the state of Zamfara,

The attacks resulted in the killing of 78 gang members, and the destruction of their camps in the area, he explained.

For years, northwestern and central Nigeria have witnessed the activities of criminal gangs that attack the villagers, loot and kidnap them, steal their livestock and burn their homes.

These armed gangs exploit the tribal conflicts in Nigeria to carry out attacks against the tribes to achieve their interests.

The violence of these criminal gangs has killed more than 8,000 people, according to a report issued by the International Crisis Group think tank, published in May 2020.
