Somalia: UAE seeks to create chaos sin the country

SANAA, Feb. 22 (YPA) – Somalia on Sunday accused the United Arab Emirates (UAE) seeking to create chaos in his country, as it did in Yemen and Libya.

Osman Dubbe, Somalia’s information minister,  said at a press conference on Sunday that the UAE’s policies towards his country are illegal and against diplomatic norms.

In a statement, the UAE Foreign Ministry described the Somali government as “interim”, accusing it of “resorting to violence and using excessive force against civilians.”

The UAE statement came following armed clashes in Mogadishu on Friday between government forces and others loyal to candidates in the presidential race.

The Somali information minister called on the UAE to “clarify its foreign ministry statement on what appears to be a lack of recognition of the Somali government and its temporary consideration”.

“The UAE wants Somalia like Libya and Yemen and seeks to create chaos, which our people do not accept,” he said.

He affirmed  the UAE statement “indicates the lack of recognition of the Somali state, which is consistent with earlier statements by some figures in the country about the absence of a state in Somalia”.

“The statement confirms the doubts that the Somali people have had about the UAE’s involvement in the country’s political problems over the past years.”
