UAE Justifies its Occupation of Socotra

SANAA, May 24 (YPA) – After the dispute between the UAE occupation forces and Bin Daghar’ authorities, loyal to the US-backed Saudi–led coalition, on the occupation of Socotra island, Bin Daghar’s authority  filed an official complaint to the Security Council, where it acknowledged the presence of the Emirates on Socotra as unjustified.

The UAE responded to the complaint by a letter to the Security Council, which explained that it has been in Socotra since 2012 with the consent of the exiled resigned Riyadh-based President Hadi and his government.

“The UAE occupation forces presence in the archipelago precedes the conflict in Yemen – started in 2012 following the devastation caused by Cyclone Megh – mainly helping Socotra residents for humanitarian purposes. And it was in coordination with Hadi government,” the letter said.

Observers of the Yemeni scene, especially the recent events in Socotra, said that the message of the United Arab Emirates to the Security Council exposed the outgoing President Hadi.

The message justified the practices of UAE occupation forces in the archipelago, in an exchange for their silence over movements in more than one provinces in southern Yemen.
