Health ministry launches distress appeal for humanitarian aid to Socotra

SANA’A, May 26 (SABA) – The Ministry of Public Health and Population on Saturday launched a distress appeal for the speedy assistance to the population of Socotra island as a result of storm Mekunu which hit the Island’s archipelago.

In a statement to SABA, Health Minister Taha al-Mutawakel, alled on international and humanitarian organizations to move quickly to provide necessary assistance in evacuating the population in Socotra to safe areas and providing shelter, food and health care for them.

He stressed the importance of working hard to deliver emergency relief assistance to those affected by the storm in all other affected areas in southern provinces and to coordinate efforts to ensure immediate response to their needs .

He called on the Minister of Health, the United Nations and its bodies to pressure the countries of the US-backed  Saudi-led coalition to open Yemen’s ports, including Sanaa airport to enable the government and civil society organizations to provide assistance to the affected areas.
