Corbyn excluded from British Labour bloc

SANAA, Nov. 19 (YPA) – The leader of Britain’s main opposition Labour Party has refused to readmit ex-Labour chief Jeremy Corbyn to the party’s parliamentary ranks, accusing Corbyn of weakening efforts to stamp out anti-Semitism, Associated Press Reported.

According to AP, Labour leader Keir Starmer said Wednesday that his predecessor had “undermined and set back our work in restoring trust and confidence in the Labour Party’s ability to tackle anti-Semitism.”

Following the decision to readmit Mr Corbyn, Sir Keir tweeted that it had been a “painful day for the Jewish community and those Labour members who have fought so hard to tackle anti-Semitism”.

He said Mr Corbyn’s remarks were “wrong and completely distracted from a report that identified unlawful conduct in our tackling of racism within the Labour Party”.

Sir Keir said he stood by the commitments he made after the report, adding: “That must mean establishing an independent complaints process as soon as possible in the new year.”

Corbyn will continue to sit in Parliament, but as an independent lawmaker.

Labour has been grappling with allegations that anti-Semitism was allowed to fester under Corbyn, a long-time supporter of Palestinians and a critic of Israel who led the party for almost five years from 2015. Corbyn was suspended from the party last month.
