UN envoy: Libyans decided to end fighting

SANAA, Oct. 25 (YPA) – Ghassan Salameh, the latest UN envoy for Libya, said Libyans have decided to end fighting, stressing that they will inform the UN of their decision.

“What is important is that the Libyans have decided to end the fighting, and they will report their decision to the countries that support them abroad,” Salameh was quoted as saying by Libya’s Al-Jamahiriya TV

Salameh’s remarks came in the context of his comments on the current developments and the decision to permanently cease fire in the country, calling on those he described as “states that are skeptic of the ceasefire agreement” to return to their senses, after the Libyans accepted an end to the war.

The UN envoy revealed that the signatories had asked the UN mission to be a witness to the departure of mercenaries from Libya, adding that he saluted the courage of the signatories and hoped it would be a historic day in the process of returning to peace.

Regarding to the timetable for the withdrawal of mercenaries and foreign fighters from Libya within three months, Salameh said: The Libyan parties had requested that the UN mission be a witness to the departure of mercenaries from Libya, but what he said was the extent to which the international community responded to the implementation of this clause of the agreement.

The Libyan National Army (LNA) spokesman Ahmed al-Masmari said the ceasefire agreement in Libya will face challenges, adding: “We will work to overcome them.”
