Head of Southern Revolutionary Movement Survives Assassination Attempt in Aden

ADEN, Oct. 22 (YPA) – The head of the so-called Supreme Council of the Southern Revolutionary Movement survived an assassination attempt in the southern port city of Aden on Thursday, local sources reported.

According to the local sources, gunmen tried to shoot Fouad Rashid in the heart of the old city of Crater, but the latter managed to escape with the help of his bodyguard.

The sources indicated that three masked gunmen were on a small bus, and one of the gunmen ran toward Rashid, but his bodyguard and citizens worked to protect him.

The unidentified gunmen believed to affiliated to the UAE-backed southern Transitional Council (STC) militias and they tried to assassinate Rashid while he was having breakfast in the area.

This is the third assassination attempt recorded in the troubled city within 48 hours.

Fouad Rashid leads the Southern Revolutionary Movement Council, which raises the slogan of the liberation and independence of the south but stands at odds with the radical movement’s factions.

 

The city of Aden has been witnessing a state of insecurity and overwhelming chaos, amid growing crimes of assassination and kidnapping in the city.
