Amnesty International calls on Egypt to release 4,000 detainees

SANAA, Sep. 20 (YPA) – Amnesty International on Sunday called on Egypt to release 4,000 people arrested as a result of the demonstrations on 20 September last year.

Amnesty in its Twitter account said, “today marks the anniversary of the largest campaign against protesters in Egypt since (President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi came to power.”

“At least 4000 people have been arrested during the last year, including journalists and activists, who did not even participate in the protests,” it added, “Many are imprisoned on unfounded charges related to terrorism.”
