UAE-backed militias shoot at demonstrators in Mukalla

HADRAMOUT, Sep. 20 (YPA) – The so-called ‘Hadrami elite’ militias affiliated with the UAE-backed “Southern Transitional Council” (STC) on Sunday opened fire on angry protest demonstration in Mukalla city, the provincial capital of Hadramout province, eastern Yemen.

“Dozens of citizens went out in an angry demonstration in ‘Al-Salam’ neighborhood, demanding better electricity services, and they were subjected to heavy shooting by the Hadrami elite militias,” said a local source.

The source added that the protesters blocked a number of main streets, which led to a complete paralysis of traffic in the city, indicating that the STC militia opened fire at the demonstrators in an attempt to disperse them.

On the other hand, dozens of residents of the city of Mukalla demanded, in a protest in front of the provincial office, the improvement of living conditions and electricity services, which have deteriorated since the UAE’s militias controlled the province in 2016.
