Army fights first military confrontation with Al-Qaeda, ISIS elements north of Marib

MARIB, Sep. 19 (YPA) – The northern outskirts of Marib city witnessed on Saturday the first military confrontation between the army forces and the popular committees on the one hand and the elements of ‘Al-Qaeda and ISIS’ and fighters of Salafi leader Yahya al-Hajouri on the other hand.

Local sources reported that the army forces and the popular committees repelled an attack by Al-Qaeda, ISIS and Salafi fighters led by an al-Qaeda leader called “Abu Alhassan al-Marebi”, towards al-Alam and al-Nadhood fronts, north of Marib.

Al-Qaeda and ISIS elements and Salafi fighters suffered heavy losses of more than 100 dead, wounded and captives, before withdrawing and returning to the Al-Qaeda camps in al-Falaj in Abidah valley, the sources added.

This came after Saudi-led coalition forces handed over Marib city on Friday to Al-Qaeda and ISIS elements led by Raid bin Saud bin Ma’eili, and ISIS leader called Salman bin Ali bin Hamad bin Miqan and his brother Abdullah, known as ‘Daesh’.
