Exchange shops continue to close to protest collapse of riyal

SANAA, July 10 (YPA) – Exchange companies in Aden province continued, on Friday, to close their stores since last Monday, in protest against the deterioration of the Yemeni riyal against foreign currencies.
Local residents in the city of Aden said that the continued closure of exchange firms in the city exacerbated their suffering and prevented the arrival of money orders they were receiving from their relatives from outside the country.
The Association of Money Changers in Aden, in a statement issued on July 5, called for the closure of all exchange shops in the city, starting last Monday, after the central bank encroached on some shops, closed transfer networks, expelled its workers and held them responsible for the deterioration of the currency.
The statement of the Central Bank of Aden, affiliated with the “Hadi government”, held full responsibility for the deterioration of the currency and the depreciation of the riyal in Aden and the southern provinces, as it is the authority entrusted with fixing the exchange rate.
