Moscow appoints new special envoy for peace in Middle East

SANAA, July 9 (YPA) -Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, on Thursday appointed Deputy Head of Russia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, Vladimir Safronkov, as his special envoy to the Middle East peace process.

The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed in a statement that Safronkov, 56, who was appointed ambassador for special tasks, will represent the Russian side in bilateral and multilateral contacts, especially in the international meetings of the “Quartet”, aimed at reaching a sustainable and just settlement of the Arab-Palestinian conflict with the Zionist enemy.
