South Korean ship hijacked West Africa

SANAA, June 25 (YPA) – Unidentified armed pirates hijacked a South Korean ship with five sailors in waters off Benin, West Africa.

According to the “Dryad Global” website, on Thursday a number of armed pirates on board a speedboat attacked a “Panofi Frontier” fishing vessel in the waters off Cotonou port in southern Benin.

The unknown went up their weapons, to the ship which was also carrying a Ghanaian citizen, and kidnapped five Koreans from the ship’s crew, and their boat headed towards the eastern waters that belong to Nigeria.

The status and condition of the Korean sailors has not been known yet, and the site said this attack was the seventh of its kind off the port of Cotonou this year.

The site had previously revealed that a South Korean citizen had been kidnapped during a prawn hunting operation by pirates on May 3, and released on June 8, 37 days after his kidnapping in the southern region of Nigeria.
