Journalist released after being brutally tortured in STC’s prison

LAHJ, May 30 (YPA) – Militia of the so-called the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Lahj province on Friday released photographer journalist Aseel Suwaid, after a month and a half of being held in custody by  the forces of the 5th Support Brigade loyal to the STC.

Human rights activists posted on social media images showing brutal signs of torture on the body of the photographer, who was released yesterday after being brutally tortured in the province’s secret prisons.

The journalist, Aseel Suwaid, is in a very poor psychological and health condition, the activists said.

He still cannot speak because of the torture he suffered in the prisons of the “5th Support Brigade support t” of the STC in the province.

They added that gunmen handed him over yesterday in the town of Al-Waht in Lahj to his family after communicating with his brother.

Journalist Nabil al-Asidi, a member of the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate, said in a Tweet, that photographer journalist Aseel Suwaid was kidnapped and forcibly disappeared by forces of the STC” in Lahj province.

According to al-Asidi, Director general of security of Lahj province, Saleh al-Sayyid appointed by Hadi, said that Suwaid was arrested under trumped-up charges with, in which he has nothing to do with.

Al-Asidi holds the STC’ s militia responsible for the life of colleague Sweid.
