Over $ 5 billion losses of transport sector due to Saudi-led aggression, blockad

SANAA, March 30 (YPA) – Minister of Transport Zakaria Al-Shami announced, Sunday, that the losses of the transport sector in the Republic of Yemen as a result of Saudi-led aggression and siege are not less than 5 billion and 856 million dollars.

The Minister explained at a press conference held in the capital, Sanaa, that the coalition of aggression had caused great damage in the sectors of air, land and sea transport for five years.

“The direct and indirect losses of the civil aviation and meteorology sector were estimated at 4 billion and 725 million dollars, while the damage and losses of the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation were estimated at 955 million dollars,” Al-Shami added.

He pointed out that the land transportation sector has lost $ 176 million, according to estimates of the General Authority for the Regulation of Land Transport Affairs.

“The unjust siege by air, sea, and land led to a humanitarian disaster, the worst in the world, according to reports by the United Nations,” he added.

Al-Shami stressed that the aerial aggression systematically targeted the various transport sectors from the first moment of the coalition aggressive operations on civil airports and sea and land ports, in flagrant violation of all international laws, treaties and covenants, foremost of which is the International Treaty of Chicago.

“A thousand and 825 days of continuous aggression constituted a real front for steadfastness with the leadership, cadres, bodies and institutions of the transportation sectors that foiled all the goals and plans of the countries of aggression, aiming at completely paralyzing this vital sector, isolating Yemen from the world and multiplying the suffering of the people,” he added.

Al-Shami emphasized that the technical and professional cadres in the Ministry of Transport and the bodies and institutions affiliated with it were able, with high technical efficiency, to restore the technical readiness of these installations after every targeting operation carried out by the warplanes of the US-Saudi aggression.

He pointed to the field accomplishments achieved by restoring technical and operational readiness to all transport sectors and continuing to provide their services and perform the tasks and responsibilities assigned to them.
