UN organizations’ interventions to confront Coronavirus discussed in Yemen

SANAA, March 19 (YPA) – Deputy Prime Minister for Services and Development and Chairman of the Supreme Ministerial Committee for Epidemic Control, Hussein Maqbouli, discussed on Thursday the urgent international organizations’ interventions to confront the Corona virus in Yemen.

During the meeting held in Sanaa, Maqbouli stressed on the importance of enhancing the importance of strengthening proactive measures and providing all possibilities for confronting the Coronavirus.

At the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister indicated that Saudi Arabia sent about four thousand Yemeni expatriates to the Yemeni border, which led to a great congestion in the Yemeni land outlets in light of a shortage of medical personnel, health safety supplies and basic services.

Maqbouli held the Saudi-led aggression countries the responsibility for attempts to introduce the virus into Yemen and increasing the number of flights via Yemeni airlines.

Meanwhile, the UN humanitarian coordinator for Yemen, Lise Grande confirmed full readiness to provide urgent support to Yemen to combat the Coronavirus .. indicating that urgent intervention would be made in the priority governorates outlets according to the Supreme Committee’s decision.

The meeting renewed that Yemen has not to date registered any suspected case or confirmed infection with the virus.

The meeting included also health minister Taha Al-Mutawakkil, local administration minister Ali al-Qaisi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for the Administration and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation Abdul Mohsen Tawoos, and the UN humanitarian coordinator for Yemen, Lise Grande.
