Coalition prevents entry of maintenance equipment for Yemeni telecommunications

SANAA, Jan. 28 (YPA) – Minister of Communications Musfer al-Numair on Tuesday said that Saudi-led coalition prevented the entry of necessary equipment into Yemen for the maintenance of telecommunications and replacing equipment that had been destroyed by the war.

“We asked the United Nations and the European Union to neutralize telecommunication sector and lift the embargo, but unfortunately we did not receive any response,” al-Numair said in an interview with “Al-Masirah” newspaper on Tuesday.

Al-Numair explained that the coalition aircraft airstrikes destroyed 30 percent of the telecommunication infrastructure, indicating that the telecommunications sector losses amounted to $ 3.5 billion due to the war on Yemen.

The coalition deprived Yemeni telecommunications from the use of marine cables owned by Yemen, he added.

The minister revealed that the telecommunications ministry made alternative and temporary solutions for the continuation of internet services during the period of Falcon cable interruption.

“The operator company stated that it will begin repairing the cable in mid-February,” he said.
