Deputy PM discusses with UNDP possibility of supporting power stations

SANAA, Jan. 22 (YPA) – Deputy Prime Minister for Services and Development Dr. Hussein Maqbouli on Tuesday met with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP)’s Resident Representative to Yemen Auke Lootsma.

The meeting discussed the humanitarian situation in Yemen and the role of the United Nations in providing the necessary assistance to meet urgent needs, especially in the electricity sector.

The meeting touched on the possibility of the UNDP support for re-operating Ras Katnib power station in Hodeidah province and Hizyaz power station in the capital Sanaa and providing their needs of fuel, maintenance and spare parts, especially in light of the continued aggression and blockade.

The catastrophic effects on the sectors of electricity, health, transportation, and other vital facilities due to the aggression coalition countries ’seizure of oil derivative vessels were also reviewed in the meeting.

At the meeting, Dr. Maqbouli appreciated the efforts of the UNDP Representative in providing assistance to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.

He called on the United Nations and international organizations to play its role in providing the needs of the Yemeni people, especially in the electricity sector.
