Military commander survives assassination in Taiz

TAIZ, April 27 (YPA) – Military police commander, appointed by resigned Hadi’s authorities in Taiz city, on Friday survived an assassination attempt in Al-Ordhi neighborhood, eastern the city, Yemen Press Agency’s reporter said.

Brigadier general Jamal al-Shamiri was visiting the military police headquarters next to Al-Shohada Square in Al-Ordhi when gunmen towering over nearby buildings opened fire on his motorcade, local sources reported.

The shooting did not result in any human injuries, but caused partial damage to the car al-Shamiri was riding, the sources added.

The incident came a day after a similar attack targeted commander of the 22nd Brigade, Brigadier General Sadiq Sarhan, in Mujaliah area of Taiz city.

Continued clashes between factions of the so-called popular resistance have been witnessed recently by the residential neighborhoods inside Taiz city, in addition to large-scale assassinations targeting civilians, military personnel and members of the resistance, in light of a full absence and inability of the authorities in those areas.
