Deputy FM, IOM Representative discuss illegal immigrants’ situation in Yemen

SANAA, Nov. 21 (YPA) – Deputy Foreign Minister, Head of the National Committee for Refugees, Hussein al-Ezzi on Thursday reviewed with the International Organization for Migration (IOM)’s Resident Representative in Yemen Christa Rottensteiner the situation of illegal immigrants flowing into Yemen.

During the meeting, al-Ezzi touched on the implications of this phenomenon on Yemenis, Yemeni authorities, and the safety of illegal immigrants themselves.

He noted to the continued waves of illegal and uncontrolled immigration into Yemeni territories, especially through the occupied provinces with facilitates from the aggression coalition and mercenaries.

These challenges, with their security, economic, social, health, humanitarian and other consequences, come under the conditions of the continued siege imposed by the aggression countries on Yemen for nearly five years, which requires updating and developing plans of the IOM and related agencies, al-Ezzi explained.

He affirmed that facilities and support would be provided to IOM’s office for the success of its tasks and activities serving the Yemeni people.

At the meeting, Rottensteiner confirmed the IOM Office’s commitment to correct performance in line with its obligations and standards of humanitarian action.

She noted that the organization seeks to enhance joint coordination with the national authorities to address the phenomenon of illegal immigration and contribute to alleviating the suffering of Yemenis.
