15 gunmen killed in clash with security forces near Uzbekistan border

SANAA, Nov. 6 (YPA) – The Government’s National Security Committee of Tajikistan confirmed Wednesday that 15 militants were killed and five others were arrested as part of their response to an armed group that attacked a checkpoint on the Tajik-Uzbek border, noting that two security forces were killed during the operation.

Around 20 unidentified gunmen attacked a Tajik security checkpoint along the border with Uzbekistan on the night (local time) of Tuesday a spokesman for the commission told Sputnik.

According to security officials, the incident occurred approximately 50 km (30 mi) southwest of the capital Dushanb. Media sources reported that two guards also died in the fighting.

They confirmed that “an investigation into the incident is ongoing.”
