Saudi Arabia bans foreigners from hospitality jobs

RIYADH, July 27 (YPA) – Saudi Arabia on Saturday imposed new restrictions banning foreigners from practicing some 20 jobs in the tourism sector, according to “Saudi Gazette” newspaper.

These restrictions concern all hotels of three stars and above, as well as apartments for tourists.

Among the jobs that have been banned for foreigners are those in the area of booking and marketing, the posts of deputy hotel manager, manager of sales, supervisor of sports club and others.

Following these restrictions, only Saudi nationals can work in baggage reception and room booking offices, and serve as waiters in restaurants, cafes and reception offices. The restrictions will not affect occupations such as the porter, driver and gatekeeper.

The new restrictions will come into force at the end of this year and will come into full effect by the end of next year.
