Protestors in al-Ghayda demand release of journalist “al-Sawari”

MAHRA, July 23 (YPA) – Residents of Mahra province, eastern Yemen, on Tuesday organized a vigil in front of Prosecution building in al-Ghayda city to demand the release of journalist Yahya al-Sawari, kidnapped by Saudi-backed militias after abducting his brother Badr and taking him to an unknown destination.

The protestors demanded the removal of the governor appointed by the exiled Hadi government Rajeh Bakrit, who marginalized Mahra people and brought the militias to the province.

They called on Mahra people to take a clear stance towards the abduction of journalist Yahya al-Sawari.

During the vigil, the protestors expressed their rejection of the Saudi occupation, which harasses fishermen and herdsmen, violates the sovereignty of their areas and militarizes Yemeni cities and coasts.

On July 3, al-Sawari, a freelance journalist, was arrested in al-Ghayda, the capital city of Mahar province, by militias affiliated to the governor Rajih Bakrit, and he was handed over to Saudi forces stationed in al-Ghayda Airport.
