PM discusses ways to develop WFP’s activities in Yemen

SANAA, May 8 (YPA) – Prime Minister Dr. Abdulaziz bin Habtour on Wednesday discussed with Deputy Executive Director of the UN World Food Program (WFP) Amir Mahmoud Abdulla ways to develop and expand the program’s humanitarian activities in Yemen.

Dr. bin Habtour highly appreciated the program’s overall humanitarian interventions and their positive impact on the reality of millions of Yemenis.

He confirmed his government’s keenness to strengthen the partnership relations and continue to search and agree on the most effective formula in the distribution of food aid and help to achieve the transition to cash aid to the targeted groups quickly.

The meeting evaluated WFP’s humanitarian interventions during the past years, especially 2018, and their positive effects in alleviating the suffering of the people due to the humanitarian tragedy made by Saudi/Emirati-led coalition aggression and siege.

The meeting touched on the imbalances that accompanied some aid and the possibility of moving to a new mechanism for the field work of the program, especially with regard to the delivery of aid to beneficiaries with high transparency.

The meeting also discussed the disposal of expired materials that were seized in a number of areas and how to avoid prolong storage of food in Djibouti ports.

For his part, Abdulla confirmed that WFP is keen to continue efforts and work to address the existing problems and ensure the safety of all materials provided through it.
