UNICEF: Attack on Hodeidah camp one of deadliest attacks on children

SANAA, Apr. 4 (YPA) – The Saudi attack on the displaced people’s camp in Hodeidah on Monday was the deadliest attack on children since the Saudi-led coalition began its aggression against the people of Yemen in 2015, UNICEF said in a statement obtained by Yemen Press Agency.

“The United Nations has verified the deaths of many children during the attack on the coastal city of Hodeidah in western Yemen and many children are reported missing as the injured and killed are still being pulled out from the rubble.,” the statement added.

“There can never be any justification for such blatant disregard for children’s rights and for international humanitarian law,” said UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa Geert Cappelaere.

UNICEF called on all parties  to take immediate action and abide by their legal duty to protect children in Yemen and to remove them from harm.

On Monday, At least 14 civilians, including seven children and three women, were killed in air raids by the Saudi-led coalition on a gathering of displaced people in Hali district of Hodeidah province, according to official data.
