Egypt withdraws from US-led Arab NATO

SANAA, April 11 (YPA) – Egypt has decided to withdraw from U.S. President Donald Trump’s “Arab NATO” initiative following President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi’s visit to Washington.

According to the Reuters News Agency, Egypt has made the decision to withdraw from the U.S.-led “Middle East Security Alliance”, which has been dubbed “Arab NATO”.

It added that Cairo did not send a delegation to the meeting, which is the latest in the effort to give impetus to the efforts led by the United States to bring together Arab allies in security, political and economic treaty against the axis of resistance and Iran.

Sources said that Egypt had withdrawn because it doubted the seriousness of the initiative and had not yet seen a blueprint outlining the contours of the alliance and the fact that a plan risked increasing tension with Iran.

Furthermore, sources from Reuters said the Egyptian authorities were partially motivated by uncertainty over President Trump’s re-election and whether his successor would scrap the entire initiative just like Trump himself scrapped the Iranian Nuclear Deal.
